Photo Date Project #4

Advanced Photography

Food has always been important for the body the grow and remain healthy to live a long life.  Culturally certain dishes bring families together.  Food has become so important especially to buy and stock in homes.  The refrigerator use to be the only storage for food products, and now many areas with in the kitchen now contain food.  These images are from my home, and this is just a small selection of places in which food is stored in my house.  It amazed me to find that for three people who do not eat an over abundance of food, we certainly store a lot in many places in our home.  Do we buy all these food products just to have them, to keep our stomachs happy?  How many people's kitchens are like mine, and could this over stocking on food be a clue as to why so many are obese?

Photo Date Project #3

Advanced Photography

As children we are always told to pick up after ourselves, to put things back where they belong.  Everything has it's own place or home, (a place designated to that object by us).  As we grow we tend to fall out of the habit of remembering to, basically keep up after ourselves.  While photographing for this project, I became more curious as to whether we chose to forget to put things back, simply through laziness, or have our lives become so complex that we choose the easy way out and forget the manners we were raised on.

Photo Date Project #2

Advanced Photography

I have always been interested in how members of certain families can look so similar to one another, and another family can look so different.  My sisters and I have always been told we look so much alike.  When comparing photographs from younger and recent years, the similarities between us have decreased.  As we have grown and matured I feel we look even less like each other.  For this photo date assignment I chose to do portraits of my sisters and I.  By taking these portraits my hopes are to be able to use these images to compare physical features between the three of us, so I can come to an understanding of how much we do or do not look alike.

Photo Date Project #1

Advanced Photography

For these Photo Date assignments we are to make a date with ourselves to ensure that we keep pushing ourselves to make new work and to keep photographing.  For this first photo date assignment I chose to explore the private moments within a persons shower.  That is a time in which our body is exposed but only to ourselves.  During a shower we release all our stress from the day and I wanted to be able to capture the feeling of that release.  These images were also taken based on how comfortable the person felt with me photographing them during this time.  Each image is different from the other because they represent two opposite people.

I Am My Own Ghost

Advanced Photography:
Questioning Truth in Photography

For this first assignment our challenge was to make our viewers question the truth of photography.  I chose to focus on my fear of the unknown presence or what I like to call ghosts.  As a child I always feared certain areas and rooms in my aunts house.  This fear caused me to believe that even if I was by myself I had a feeling that if I turned my head there would be something or someone watching me.  Through the process of photographing I struggled with the identity of this so called presence that I felt.  I then realized that the only reason I feel as though I'm being watched is because I cause myself to be scared even though I know nothing is there.  This is when I realized that I am my own ghost.  It is all a figment of my imagination.  The spaces chosen for each image are the specific places in my aunts house that I have that daunting feeling.
When capturing each image, I made the decision to not photograph my face.  This decision was made in order to leave the identity of the person and the ghost open.  This is so each person who looks at these photographs can place themselves in the image and are able to relate to them especially if they have the same fear that I do.  Every two images are meant to correlate with each other.

Intermediate Digital: Final Project

Diptychs: Miniature World versus Real World
Recently I have been fascinated working with miniatures.  I feel that when we are younger we create our perfect home within our doll house.  What we create in our miniature world is beautiful and perfect, but then when the real world arrives things don't turn out the way we plan.

Those Intimate Moments

Creative Portrait Final Project
This project is in the works( not completed yet).  For my final project I began wanting to photograph my family members in a more intimate way, and then that developed into another idea.  With these images, I am photographing three couples.  I would like to portray a time sequence that happens before an intimate moment occurs between these couples.  The images that portray this time sequence may deal more with emotions of those couples, or more of a literal sense of their intimate moment in the end.
